Moving existing credit card or store card debts to a new balance transfer card can save you £100′s or £1000′s. A balance transfer is when one credit card repays debts on other credit or store cards so you now owe that card the money instead, and if you’ve done your homework you could get a very special rate!

Most of the top balance transfer deals are for new card holders, and require the debt to be cleared within a couple of months of opening the card account with a fee of around 3%. There a few existing customer balance transfer deals which are really useful for more efficiently using credit you already have. Also, don’t confuse cutting the interest with paying less each month, as that is determined by the minimum repayments! If you can repay your debts within about 2 years, or are prepared to shuffle card debts then a 0% deal is best for you.

However, many cards charge balance transfer fees of around 3% of the debt moved. Therefore it’s a question of balancing the 0% deal and the fee, depending on your needs. 0% deals are currently at their longest ever, and are more often than not cheaper than the best low rate long term cards, even if your debt takes several years to repay. Although it would always be wise to switch at the end of the 0% The longest 0% deals currently on offer all require you to pay a one off fee when you do the transfer. The trade off is that you get it interest free for a long time.

Keep in mind that you must make at least the minimum repayments each month! Currently the top 3 are:- Barclaycard Platinum – offering 0% for 22 months with a 2.9% fee of the amount transferred. After the 0% period the rate rises 17.9% APR. This is currently the longest deal available but you can’t transfer from other Barclaycards to it so look at other possibilities Halifax – offering 0% for 22 months with a 3.5% fee of the amount transferred. After the 0% period the rate rises to 17.9%APR. Try to ensure you have repaid in full by then or transfer to another cheap available deal. Natwest/RBS – This card offers 0% for 20 months with a 2.9% fee on debts shifted within 3 months. After the 0% period the rate rises to 17.9%APR. There are other balance transfer cards available if you already have any of the above. Search to see which ones suits your needs best.

The big energy providers have to reach ‘Carbon Emission Reduction Targets’. They have to pump money into trying to make our homes more efficient and are particularly aiming at ‘vulnerable’ households who are in receipt of certain benefits and the elderly! They are going to receive massive fines if they do not achieve their targets, so they are putting lots of cash out for this. See if you can benefit!

Simply recommend someone elderly or on benefits and get £50 each! British Gas is now offering £50 if you refer an elderly person on pension credit, or anyone else on qualifying benefits, to get free insulation. Neither of you need to be British Gas customers, and you’ll both get £50. See British Gas website for more details. Everyone is eligible for up to £300 of free installation! Cavity wall and loft insulation can cut £100s off annual energy bills. Up to £300 is being offered to anyone by energy companies, even if you’re not their customer. Anyone can apply, but you do need a suitable property.

Get free insulation plus 10,000 Tesco points if you are on certain benefits! Tesco is giving 10,000 (5,000 for loft + 5,000 for cavity wall) points to anyone getting insulation if they’re on qualifying benefits. 10,000 points are worth £100 redeemed in store, and can be worth up to £400 on Tesco Rewards. Alternatively, Eon’s offering anyone on qualifying benefits £100 cash for getting free insulation! Here is a list of the big providers, check their web pages for ‘Free Cavity Wall and Loft Insulation’ to see the offers the currently have:- British Gas, E-on, Scottish Power, Southern Electric, Tesco, and EDF.

Households are being urged to claim free cavity wall and loft insulation, whilst they can! Government figures show 9.6 million homes do not have the recommended 270mm of loft insulation, and 7.8 million homes do not have cavity wall insulation! Meaning one in four properties have inadequate insulation!

Every month thousands of households have free cavity wall and loft insulation installed by their energy supplier. This is paid for by a green tax that we all pay on our energy bills.Figures show that only half of the money available from energy suppliers to pay for free insulation is claimed by households! And, from October the scheme will be replaced with the Government’s Green Deal, which will see households having to borrow money to pay for their energy efficiency measures.

Therefore anyone who could have loft and cavity wall insulation installed for free now would have to pay somewhere in the region of £700! According to Energy Saving Trust, loft insulation can save an estimated £175 per year on energy bills and cavity wall insulation can save around £135. Anyone wanting to claim their free insulation should act now!

Currently, energy supply costs appear to be all over the place, but companies are appearing to be lowering costs to account for falling wholesale prices! So, the big question is, where can you get the most competitive deals right now? According to experts, making the right switch for gas and electricity could save the average household £292.Mark Todd, director of Energyhelpline.com said “Living standards are being squeezed to the point where many households face a daily challenge to make ends meet.

However, it is not all doom and gloom and energy customers can save hundreds of pounds in just a few minute by switching supplier.”Energyhelpline .com is a comparison website and they have investigated the best deals available right now! The best overall deal is the First Utility Internet tariff, costing the average UK household £1,030 a year , which amounts to a £292 saving on the UK average bill of £1,322. The company also has the second most competitive deal, saving the average household around £262 a year.

Some of the better known names such as nPower, Scottish Power and Ovo are all in the top five, and according to energyhelpline.co.uk they are currently attracting the most business. From the top five there are four ‘fixed deals’ available, suggesting that the providers may think prices could remain pretty stable in the immediate future. In fact, it could be worth considering a variable deal, because prices could drop! Todd said “The recent spike in wholesale prices due to the cold weather has now calmed. Further small price cuts are expected from summer onwards. If the UK and European economies slow dramatically this yearthen big price cuts are possible.” So it could be well worth switching now, and if you do opt for a variable deal it could be worth switching later on in the year too! Keeping a keen eye on energy suppliers could save hundreds of pounds!

Its always cheaper to book rail tickets well in advance. If you can book 12 weeks before travel you will get the best bargains, but sometimes just a few weeks early can bring huge savings too! Register for the ticket alert system offered by TheTrainline.com if you know when and where you want to travel, and this will give you the benefit of receiving an email as soon as advance tickets are available to buy!

Although advance train tickets are so much cheaper, you can sometimes still buy advance tickets the night before (before 6pm) and its even worth trying to check if advance tickets are still available whilst you’re on your way to the station! Another tip is to check prices for single and return tickets regardless of your journey! Sometimes a return ticket can cost more than buying two single fares and, occasionally if you’re only going on a one way journey, buying a return ticket could be cheaper!

Keep an eye out for extra offers available through vouchercode websites and daily newspapers advertising special deals for limited times. National Rail have an online offer currently available – when code is entered, untill 29th February giving 20% off a Family and Friends Railcard bringing the cost down from £28 to £22.40 for a years membership.

By swapping fresh food for frozen you could save up to £7.80 on your weekly shop!

According to new supermarket research from TheNewIceAge.com, households trying to reduce their weekly grocery bill show that by switching to buying frozen food can save a huge 34% The shopping basket analysis showed that a basket of frozen family groceries costs just £15.45 compared to the same items bought fresh costing £23.25.

The study compiled by Sheffield Hallam University for the frozen food website, compared the most popular family purchases including pizza, broccoli, carrots, garlic bread, whole chicken, prawns, salmon, meat sausages, spinach and parsnips. The study included value, regular, premium and organic ranges and found there to be opportunities to switch from fresh to frozen on over 600 items.

Charlotte Harden, nutrition and science consultant said: “We compared items from four of the top supermarkets and found that frozen food comes in at much better value per 100g. Many families are feeling the pinch at this time of year and will be looking for cost savings so they can clear post-Christmas debts. A really simple way to make your money go further is to buy frozen food.”

The study concluded that an average family of four could save £405.60 per year by switching to frozen food!

Petrol prices keep rising, so remember to keep a look out for any deals, offers or promotions offered by your local filling stations. Tesco has just launched a great offer giving 10p off a litre of fuel for customers who spendmore than £60 in-store and online. Shoppers have until February 5th to get the discount which will last for a set time of two weeks. Tesco’s chief executive, Richard Brasher, said “We know families are feeling the pinch in these tough times so I am pleased we can offer customers some extra value at the
pumps.”

This could be the first move in a potential price war at the pumps. Some of the other big name supermarkets could hit back with similar offers and promotions for great savings, so keep a look out for the best deals available around you!

Voucher code websites are now fully under way and well established way of saving money. So, no wonder there are new sites springing up daily claiming to offer fantastic discounts at hundreds of shops and restaurants. Some are definitely better than others but you don’t need your ‘in box’ loaded with unnecessary emails. So, sign up and register with the top sites for daily deals and, when looking for one off big purchases search extra sites.

Vouchercodes.co.uk are probably one of the most reliable and well organised of the bunch. Every day they list the Top 20 codes of the day, colour code their offers to see which shops they are for and they offer real exclusive voucher offers. A simple site to use with the benefit of no adverts!

MyVoucherCodes are also a great supplier of codes with probably the largest choice available. It is a well run site with great deals and has ‘exclusive offers’ though sometimes these can be found elsewhere! Does tend to carry a lot of advertising though!

KGB Deals have a great range of daily offers and savings for your local area as well as having national deals that include a wide variety of savings!

Millions are missing the opportunity for huge savings on their energy bills
by failing to take very simple steps to save money!

Consumer Focus and Energy UK are urging customers to try to reduce their
bills by better insulating their homes and by double checking that they are on the correct tariff or payment method. Government figure show millions of homes do not have adequate loft insulation or cavity wall insulation. Many energy suppliers offer free or even discounted loft and cavity wall insulation, which can offer savings to consumers an average of £120 on their bill each year. Also, by switching payment plans to direct debit could save customers a further £100 each year.

There is a new wave of petrol cashback credit cards now coming on the market, enabling you to significantly cut your fuel costs at every major petrol station and get £100′s cash back every year!

With an average petrol price around £1.35 a litre, filling up an average size tank each week costs an incredible £3,500/year! – The new petrol cashback cards, pay you money back when you buy fuel.

A great example of a cash back card is the the Santander 123 card which pays 3% cashback, that’s £3 per £100, at petrol stations up to a max £9 per month, ie, £300 of fuel. On top that it pays 2% in department stores and 1% in supermarkets. There’s a £24 annual fee, so it only adds up for regular drivers. A family spending £60 a week filling up and £150 on food would make £150 a year (after the fee). Though fail to fully repay and it’s a wopping 18.9% representative APR.

For more info & best buy plus loads more petrol saving tips, see the visit Martin Lewis’s website: Cheap Petrol Top Cashback Cards

Over 2 million Airmiles collectors will soon be made to pay up to £600 in charges when redeeming their flights. From December 15 , the loyalty schemes members will have to pay air fees and fuel taxes on flights that were previously included when purchasing travel using Airmiles.

The changes are part of Airmiles re launch to the new name Avios, following the merger of British Airways with Spanish airline Iberia last year.

You can still book flights using the scheme without paying taxes until mid December for travel within 12 months. Members will still be collecting Airmiles from their usual retailers and banks but the points will be renamed to Avios instead.
